Let the Games Begin

Today, while my brain was rambling around from thought to thought, I hit on one that kinda troubled me.

When I talk to alot of the people I know about what they got for Christmas…nobody got any video games.

Hmmmm.

I’m having trouble just wrapping my brain around this.  I got several games for Christmas.  H got me Monopoly Streets and Family Game Night 3, both for the Wii.  My sister got me Goldeneye…again for the Wii.  (James Bond, of which I am a HUGE fan.)  Most of this, I’d asked for.  Ok, I didn’t ask for Family Game Night 3, but it has Clue in it.  Clue is my all time favorite board game.  (I’m also a mystery fan.)

The thing is…this is how my family likes to roll.  D received the latest Dr. Layton game for the DS, as well as Starcraft II for the PC.  My sister got her own copy of Goldeneye for the Wii.  My brother-in-law received Grand Turismo 5 for the PS3.  My dad received his own DS XL and a couple games for it.  Heck, even Mom received Epic Mickey for the Wii (from us)!  D’s family isn’t that different either, in that we got him Grand Turismo 5 for Christmas.

I WANTED games.  They keep me sane by letting me blow of steam.  They’re fun.  I don’t think a Christmas has been successful if I haven’t received some sort of game….even if it’s just a board game.

I just wonder sometimes if this makes us odd, in our liking of video games.  Why don’t other people like them?  What on earth do those other people do with their spare time?  Stare at the walls?  I’ve even downloaded games for my Kindle, so I can play minesweeper between chapters of a book.

I dunno.  I guess to each his own.  I think I’m pretty normal, though.

Kicking it Worgen Style

Yes, it’s another gamer-chick post.  You’ll have to tolerate it, because it’s part of who I am.

Anyways.

So I had the afternoon off Friday, and D and I were able to get some gaming time in together.  (Note…I’m giving up on the “+cat” nicknames, and I’ll just use the first letter of their names.  D=Hubby.)

How’d we get in gaming time with an infant?  Tired baby = Nap = time to do what we want.  H took a very long nap in the afternoon and another in the evening.  I opted to ignore the cleaning for a day.  So D and I logged into WoW and did some Cataclysm stuff.

We completed the Worgen starting area.  (Worgen = Werewolf, for the uninitiated.)

There she is.  Isn’t she CUTE?  Aren’t I CUTE as a wolf?   Notice….I did NOT say DOG.

So I made her a druid.  I love druid stuff in real life.  So I always thought Druid would be my class.  But alas, I have tried to play a druid 5 different times in the last, er 4 years.  I can’t do it.  I loose interest around level 20.  But I always tried feral (change into powerful animals) or resto (healing) druids before.  This time…I’m going balance.  D says that’s more like a Mage.  I like mages.  So there you go.

So D and I did the whole starting area.  We fought in the battles against the attacking Worgen as humans.  I LOVE LOVE LOVED the cinematic that explained how I became infected with the Worgen curse and turned into one.  That was so freakin cool.  We did the entire questline before bed.

And then…and then….I felt so depressed.  I was so sad about the outcome of the questline.  And I was so sad that I’m stuck as a Worgen.  I mean, even if I ultimately like my character as the wolf chick.  I felt sad for her.

I also had dreams overnight where I was fighting werewolves and undead.  So there you go.  Video game dreams for the win!

I noticed something about my gameplay though.  I play Alliance, because that’s what D played when he got me started.  I’ve always thought the Horde characters were ugly.  No way did I want to play ugly toons.  I mean, you spend the game basically following your character, staring at their behinds.  They should be cute behinds.  But if I look over my list of toons….they’re night elves, draeni (which I can’t spell for some reason), and now worgen.  Any humans, dwarves, or gnomes I’ve started, are extremely low level and languishing without my attention.  Hmmm.  I apparently don’t like to follow the human-looking creatures.  Hmmm.

Or maybe it’s the blue.  I like the blue skins…

Gotta go put up the Christmas Tree quick…so D and I can play through the Goblin starting zone!
