I’m still scoping out iPads. Yes, I know…I like to torture myself by researching things I don’t really feel I can afford at the moment. But I call it “being prepared.”
Anyways. I’ve been watching a video podcast on the iPad. (The iPad is the subject…not that I’m watching it on…oh you know what I mean.)
There’s alot of cool applications (aka “apps” for those in the know). There’s neeto games, and research stuff, social networking, readers, etc. But what I want to know…what I haven’t seen yet…show me how to just plain old Surf the Net. I don’t want an app that decides where I’m going on my behalf. I want to go there myself. My own way.
Also, another concern, is the rate at which they are coming out with new versions of these Apple gizmos. A new iPhone every year? A new iPod every year? If I shell out $500+ for an iPad, in 6 months are they going to come out with one that has new features and functionality mine doesn’t have? I understand if they came out with a camera. That’s hardware, so I can handle if that’s not there. But new operating systems, multi-tasking capabilities, flash capabilities….would I get software upgrades for things like that? Don’t know. Haven’t heard.
Needless to say, it’s a very cool device, but I’m still extremely wary. As a confirmed Apple Hater (the company, not the fruit), I’m loath to jump into any of their products without a heck of alot of “what’s in it for me” incentive. So we’ll see what happens there. For now, I’m going to get a Kindle.
