Fruits Are Free???

I’m sitting here, at my desk, surrounded by papers, booklets, tracking slips, recipe books, and calculators.

Yes…Weight Watchers changed their entire program this week.

So far, I’m thinking this is rather cool.  I’ve been doing this for 5 years.  It had gotten OLD.  I had gotten LAZY.  I had gotten BORED.  I just wanted the results but didn’t want to put in much effort.

I know the program works though.  I lost 97lbs.  Then I met HC.  Then I got married.  Then I went to Walt Disney World.  Then I gained back 30lbs.  (Not all at Disney…but that started it.)

Ugh.

Then I got pregnant.  Following the healthy eating guidelines without actually following the points program, I managed to only gain 3lbs during the first trimester.  I’ve heard that if you can gain no more than 5lbs in the first trimester, that you have a much better chance of getting the weight back off.  Not sure about that, but I managed to do very well.  Overall gaining 30lbs during the course of the pregnancy wasn’t bad.

But I got into bad habits.  I liked the mid morning snack, as well as the mid-afternoon snack.  And so, I’m yo-yoing as I started back.

But NOW…I feel rather rejuvenated!  I feel like I really am starting new, because I have to relearn the whole darn thing.  It’s providing me with the impetus to really be strict about it again.  And I’ll say the biggest reason is that my fruits are free.  I feel like it’s ok to have a banana mid-morning and some peaches mid afternoon.  It’s free, so hey why not?

I’m sure that’s the exact mindset that Weight Watchers scientists were going for when they changed the plan.  Make the fruits free, and the people who set their alarm clocks to be 15 minutes fast will fall into line.

Yep…present and accounted for!

To go with this whole jazzed feeling, I allowed myself to buy the big member kit.  Comes in a pretty blue zipper-closed binder.  Oooooh!  I love that sort of thing!  And a points calculator!  OoooooH Gadgets!  I love gadgets!

This brings me back to my current state…surrounded by booklets….my lite wheat bread is now 2pts for 2 slices instead of 1pt.  Studying…studying…

Balancing Act of a Different Kind

I’m just going to point out a little something here.

On my commute route, they are building a new church.  It’s in a field, as usual.  Meaning there goes some more nature space paved over by, of all things, a church

But see, I got to thinking today, as I drove home listening to my own thoughts (as my iPod battery was dead and I didn’t feel like listening to music on the radio.)

Follow me here….

I can count at least 12 churches in town.  I say “at least” because I’m sure there’s others tucked in somewhere that I’m not aware of.  But this isn’t a huge town.  It’s nice sized, but not huge.

So…12 churches, which I think is a little excessive.

But…

I can count at least 12 pizza places, as well.

Is there a direct correlation between the number of churches and the number of pizza parlors in town?

What does this REALLY say about the state of things?

I, at least, think it’s damn funny.

There’s Just So Much I Can Do

Sigh

Tonight was a very cool night in many respects.  HC got the Christmas lights up on the house.  I got to have some playtime with DC while he did that.  I was able to scrapbook.  And we put DC to bed.

No, really.

See, I tried when she was 6 weeks old, to give her the last evening bottle and put her to bed.  Didn’t work.  At 8-9ish she just wanted to be in her swing at that time.  But I’ve been watching her routine lately.  She wants a bottle around 9-ish (give or take an hour) and then she’d be out cold in the swing.  I’d have to wake her up later to put her to bed.

Ok then.  So HC tried again.  While I scrapbooked, he took her upstairs, got her into her jammies, fed her a bottle, and into bed she went.  She’s been sleeping for a couple hours now.

AWESOME.

But….I was working on my scrapbook project while this was going on.  Quite happily working away on 2 layouts.  Got one done…no problem.  Did alot of paper piecing on layout number 2…something I don’t normally do much of…got the picture stuck down…started my embellishments…turned to put some stuff away and Elly jumped up on my desk…

ACHO!!

The cat sneezed on my my layout.  And the photo inks started to run.  And I wanted to cry.  All that work!  Before I hyperventilated, HC talked me through calmly and slowly peeling the photo off.  Whew!  So now I can print a new photo tomorrow evening and finish that off.

Cat…you’re supposed to be quality control….not disaster creation!
