You Should Set That Up For Her…

Isn’t this just how it goes?

HC and I took the new car back to the dealership this evening after work.  We had to give them the title to my old car, since we hadn’t had it with us Saturday.  I also was supposed to get a full tank of gas and my “Welcome to your New Car” walk-through.  We’d closed the place out Saturday, so I didn’t get that before taking possession of the car.

No biggie…title in hand, GrandmaCat prepped to keep baby just a little bit longer, we headed up to the dealership.

Now…I refuse to do car things by myself.  Now admittedly, I don’t know much about cars, so everything they tell me sounds urgent.  Since I know they like to take women for a ride, HC or my Dad has always gone with me.  It’s just smart that way.  The rare occasions I went by myself, I’ve had issues.  There’s also the fact that I have a bit of a hearing impairment, and the minute one of those stupid air-hose-screwdriver-things goes off, I can no longer understand the person in front of me.

So.  Get to dealership.  Hand him title.  Take him and car out to get our full tank of gas.  No problem.

Then it starts.

Well…you should already know all these buttons and features, since your husband here has one.

Hello?  I’ve driven his car ONCE.  And I don’t mess with his car setup when I’m a passenger, because he knows I’d kill him if/when he messes with MY car setups.

He pointed out the mileage measurement…the one thing I knew beforehand.  Then he said it.  He pointed to the garage door opener buttons on my rear view mirror.  And he said to my husband:

“You should set those up for her.”

DUMBASS.

I program computers for a living.  The internal machines that make this big car work….give me a few manuals, some emulators, some time, and some desire, and I could figure out how they work.  Do NOT tell my HUSBAND to PROGRAM my CAR for ME.

Seriously, that was it.  The extent of my walk-through.  Didn’t turn on the CD player.  Didn’t touch any buttons.  Not sure how to flip the mirror since there’s no little paddle thingie.  No idea how to change the time this weekend.  What the ef are the buttons on the left side of my steering column?  Does the cruise really turn off each time I turn off the car?  Is there any anti-theft thing, that disconnects when the key is out of the ignition?  Is there an alarm that will go off if I lock the car with the key-fob and then put my key in the ignition and try to start her up?

Yeah.  Walk-through.  I drove out of Honda 7 years ago knowing how to reconnect the middle seat belt, fold up my back seats, and all about the anti-theft devices.  I know squat about this car.

Wednesday evening after Survivor, look for me in the garage, sitting in my car, with the manual, and pushing buttons.

And send me that salesman evaluation please.  Nice guy, but don’t dismiss me because I’m female.
